EDRG 3321 LITEREATURE FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Hello, Mrs. Pickett
#3

Here is my blog on chapter three. Thank you so much for printing up the power point for me. It was very helpful.

Reading is a fundamental part of the learning process. Children need to comprehend what there reading in order to become better learners. Teachers play a very important role in the process of students learning how to read. A teacher should always have reading material that the children can relate too. Children will love learning how to read if they feel that they have something in common with the story.

The best way too learn how to read in my opinion is aesthetic reading(reading for fun). You should read something that you want to learn about or just read something that gives you enjoyment. Allowing children to do this will set the stage for efferent reading later (reading to gain important knowledge).

When someone can make since of what they are reading they are more likely to be a life time reader. My son loved for me to read Christmas storeys to him during the holidays. I would pick books that had family's in the story who shared some of the same tradition's that we did. I know that he loved the pictures but he could also relate to the story. He understood what the character in the book was experiencing.

I think as teacher its important to have books in the classroom that each student can relate too.
Children should also be exposed to story's that they are not that familiar with as well. The amazing thing about story's, is that a teacher can take her students around the world and never step foot out of the classroom!

  1. Good job Tameika,
I am glad that you are enjoying the class and are getting something out of it. I love reading what commentaries you have regarding your learning and the associations that you make between new and existing knowledge. Keep up the good work.
